The effects of infertility on men and women can sometimes lead to relationship breakdowns and mental health struggles .
On this episode we speak with Ray Blackney a man who shares his side of the story about infertility , the IVF journey he went through with his beloved wife , and he also spoke of the mechanisms they adapted to cope during their treatments.
They started trying to have kids in their mid 30's but it didn't happen even after they tried five rounds of IVF!
Then they found a new fertility doctor who got them through the sixth IVF and it worked , they have a son.
He spoke of reasons they went through IVF.
How his wife already had frozen eggs prior to their IVF journeys .
He explained options they were presented with before choosing IVF.
He describes a method they adapted to cope with each failed IVF.
Using a silver lining method to get over each of the miscarriages .
He also talked about how they transitioned to being parents and dealing with sleepless nights and changing nappies , getting used to the the mess that the baby makes around the house and just enjoying the precious moments.
He shared some of the philosophies and methods he adopts for raising his son .
We explored the emotional impacts of dealing with ectopic pregnancies ,and early miscarriages on his wife ,and even on them both sometimes leaving his wife weeping for days .
Most people don't get the emotional support required to deal with the loss of their growing babies this triggers increased levels of anxiety , depression and sometimes suicidal tendencies. especially when women experience recurrent miscarriage .
Ray shared other practical ways to become parents i.e adoption and fostering .
Although Ray and his partner are amongst the few couples who end up with a successful IVF journey , his story is both heart-warming and relatable in a good way .
