Forced, involuntary or coerced sterilization is a tactic that has been used for decades. It started out in hospitals and prisons but quickly grew to include anyone that didn't fit in.
In North Carolina over the span of 40 years there was over 7500 sterilizations performed. Many of them were low income families, people of color, and disabled people.
And while these programs are not as widely advertised as they used to be, lets not fool ourselves into thinking it does not still take place today.
