In this week's episode I am interviewing Martin Majlund, who is the founder of Sky.Garden, an SaaS e-commerce platform built for African retailers. Martin graduated with a Masters in Economic Science in 2006 and then spent 5 years working agency side (advertising) before shifting over to the corporate side in 2011 heading up global tech at Carlsberg Breweries. He founded Sky.Garden with Christian Grubak in 2015, quit his job at Carlsberg in September 2016, launched Sky.Garden in Kenya in May 2017, and today has 4,500+ businesses in Kenya using the platform. The next funding round aims at scaling Sky.Garden to more East African territories and eventually they intend to become the preferred online sales channel in Africa. Martin is married and has his hands well and truly full with 4 kids. In this episode, we’ll discuss: His decision to quit a well-paid corporate job to build a tech company in Kenya, despite only having visited Africa once over 20 years ago. How tech can solve real global problems. How the mix of parenting and being an entrepreneur makes you a better parent and a better entrepreneur. How Martin has embraced a failure culture after initially struggling with this.
