Episode 33: As a departure from our usual episodes, Emma and Henry take the time to discuss and review the newly released movie, 2020's Barbie Princess Adventure. Listen as we see this new cast of characters, interesting songs, and random goats and Try it on! (it makes more sense when you see the movie). Aside from that, SPOILERS for the new movie if you want to go in blind to this movie.

DISCLAIMER: Since the publishing of this episode, a listener got into contact with us and pointed out some problems with our last episode. In it, we talked about how the Nikki dolls started to use "More accurate black hair" compared to older dolls, but this was not accurate. Though we did want to make a point of Barbie and Mattel's efforts of increasing diversity within the brand, we reinforced the idea that there is a "right" way to be black or a person of color, when there is in fact a wide amount of diversity to be seen in and outside of media. We try to call out any examples of racially "questionable" things whenever we see them. Though we haven't done as good a job as we could do when it comes to articulating these thoughts and observations, which has resulted in us perpetuating these same things. We don't want to say this as an excuse or as a request for forgiveness, but we do want to further commit to our goal of addressing these topics with more maturity and foresight through research and listening to more perspectives about Barbie and her place in history.
