Drafted in the 28th round in 2017, Davis Schneider was mostly an afterthought as a prospect for most of his minor-league career.
A breakout 2022 season led to continued success this year, followed by a 25-game MLB debut for the ages.
The 24-year-old showed up at Fenway Park out of Triple-A in August and just recently posted the highest-ever OPS through 25 games of a big-league career with a 1.315 mark into September.
From finding out he was drafted on social media and not believing it to Toronto Blue Jays fans wearing fake moustaches in honour, Schneider goes over his journey from unknown prospect to key contributor in a playoff race.
————
Now in his eighth season at the helm — tied with J.P. Ricciardi for second-longest tenure as GM in club history behind Pat Gillick — Toronto Blue Jays executive vice president of baseball operations and GM Ross Atkins sits down to chat about his days at Wake Forest during the Tim Duncan era in the 1990s, his five-year minor-league career, and how it all led to a front office role in Cleveland alongside Mark Shapiro.
The 50-year-old also goes over some interesting front office moments, including his first trade/free-agent negotiations, arbitration talks with Josh Donaldson when he first became GM in Toronto, and his thoughts on the 2023 season for his ballclub.
