Today’s Soul-filled Cafe is with Gina Rizzolo-Epstein. Gina is a writer and documentary filmmaker living and working in Guachipelin, Costa Rica. She maintains a popular blog, gtopia, in which she documents her adventures and experiences as a successful bipolar wife and mother.

Gina and I met over 15 years ago in New York City. At the time, Gina was working in the fashion world and I was involved in public health; and we were both participating in an intense program called Team Management and Leadership. We share an interest in self-development and making a difference.

Over the years, thanks to Facebook, I knew that Gina had gone through some big life changes: she had gotten married, had a child and most recently moved to Costa Rica. So last month, while I was visiting Puerto Viejo, we had the chance to reconnect on my last day when I had a few hours in San Jose before my flight took off.

After having that time with Gina, I knew I wanted to have her at the Soul-filled Cafe, because not only has she navigated through big life changes, I discovered that she also had a major life revelation when she was diagnosed as bipolar.

In this interview we discuss what it takes to navigate change while also managing ones mental health. Gina shares about her blog, gtopia; who some of her role models are; and what life in Costa Rica with her family is like, both the good and the challenging pieces.
