The 1980's were a time before mass access to the internet and the time when HIV and AIDS first came to Australia. The Australian community responded to this new modern-day leprosy with crippling fear, terror, appalling discrimination and loathing – of people – young Australian people. It was surely, the darkest of times. 'It was the time we collectively stained our Australian soul' – Drew Browne, founder of Unusual Risks Insured. What happened to our young people in the late 1980’s must never be forgotten; the impact of their short lives remembered and recorded before the sands of time and volumes of social media overshadow their story. It was the time when a Grandmother named Patricia, and her band of volunteers, stood up for those who had lost their voice.
