Blood is an important vehicle for food, oxygen and other compounds move from one part of the human body to the next. When a life-altering disease or an accident happens, blood is an essential part of the recovery process. According to the South African National Blood Services, less than 1% of citizens are active and regular blood donors. This is a cause of concern as this means there are shortages of blood in the public healthcare system.
