There are many great things about the beautiful game, but really, who among us doesn’t thoroughly enjoy a 96th minute touchline fracas? Jose Mourinho’s return to Stamford Bridge dramatically finished 2-2. But was it a fair result? Five months ago everything was looking up for Julen Lopetegui. Manager of his national team, one of the favourites to win the World Cup and his side were playing great football. Since then, he’s been appointed Real Madrid manager pre-World Cup, sacked before Spain kicked a ball in Russia, seen his best player be sold and had his side go over 8 hours without even scoring a goal. Yet, Saturday saw his first stroke of luck in months. With el Clasico fast approaching, Lionel Messi has been ruled out of Spanish football’s biggest match. Is the tide beginning to turn, or will Lopetegui even be in charge next Sunday? Man City, Tottenham and Liverpool all continue winning, but it’s a big Champions League midweek for all 3 sides. They’ve all lost ground in their group, it is must win for all 3 if they are to continue in Europe’s elite competition.
