So it’s all led to this: Almost 4 years ago, 211 teams began the qualification process for Russia 2018, but now only 2 are left standing. France and Croatia. There was a long road to get here, but their last victims, Belgium and England must still suffer the indignity of a third place playoff. Saturday England face Belgium as their B side seek revenge over Belgium’s B side in what must surely be the first instance of two teams throwing on the B team against each other in the same tournament twice. An incredible set of circumstances. But, this is what we’ve all been building up to. We’ve seen 30 teams be eliminated, leaving 2 standing tall. France versus Croatia. Who will be the hero? Who will make the dreaded mistake that goes down in infamy? Who will be down on the ground in tears? Who will be World Champions?
