Malene Nielsen is with the Danish Ministry of Foreign Affairs and is Deputy, Permanent Delegation of Denmark to UNESCO. She has a M.A. in International Relations and Development Studies from Roskilde University, and a B.A. in International Marketing from Copenhagen Business School, and has done an internship with UNESCO while finishing her Masters. We spoke about the recent research she has conducted with UNESCO on Freedom of Expression and how COVID-19 has weakened human rights protection around the globe, with a focus on artists, scientists, and journalists, and how aware they are of their rights under international law.

They published their findings in 2021, in a special report called Critical Voices.
