EXPLICIT CONTENT WARNING: This episode may not be suitable for all listeners. This episode contains topics such as suicide that can be triggering. Listener discretion advised.

To kick off Mental Illness Awareness Week Jonathan and Kevin share their experience with their sexuality and discuss battles from their past and present with lighthearted humor. The LGBTQ+ community is not only affected by the discrimination and invalidation of others but also mental disorders. A member of the LGBTQ community is 2.5 times more likely to experience depression, anxiety, and substance misuse (Mental Health America, 2019). Compared to heterosexual youth, LGBTQ youth are almost five times as likely to have attempted suicide (CDC, 2016).

Jonathan and Kevin discuss ideas for others to be more accepting of themselves as well as others. These guys are the best and I am truly grateful they hopped on the podcast. Should you have any questions please feel free to send a voice message through the Anchor App or e-mail to theupsidesfm@gmail.com. Remember there's always a solution and "you're doing amazing sweetie".
