The LGBTQ+ community is not only affected by the discrimination and invalidation of others but also mental disorders. A member of the LGBTQ community is 2.5 times more likely to experience depression, anxiety, and substance misuse (Mental Health America, 2019). Compared to heterosexual youth, LGBTQ youth are almost five times as likely to have attempted suicide (CDC, 2016).
