This podcast is recorded live, as the action unfolds, on one of many vast ranches in the mountains of the Eastern Cape, South Africa. It is completely unscripted and unplanned.
Much like many parts of the USA— farmers in South Africa use trained hounds to help control local predator populations. They do this to reduce predation on their far roaming-livestock and new-born animals. Despite this training, hound success rates tend to be low, but help keep the cats and jackals a safer distance. We learned this from two local hound hunters named Themba and Gogo, who we interviewed spontaneously on the side of a mountain. This is their story.
(Robin and his bow-hunting buddy Callum Methley of @kudu_hunt are asking questions)
A big thank-you again to Themba and Gogo, to Callum for all the guidance (and catering!) and to Fred Hammer for the heads-up that morning.
