As is becoming tradition, we start in the 1800s and work our way into what is far too recent for comfort. We dive headfirst into the problem of systemic racism - its causes, its consequences, and worst of all the crippling apathy that surrounds it. And we get mad. Again.

50:18 - Brooke added that the words "Octoroon" and "Quadroon" were used to refer to mixed race children of black and white parents, but was not entirely clear; these phrases are and were highly racist words used to describe the children of often-times raped slaves and referred to the percentage African their blood was. It in no way is an acceptable term for the children of mixed race parents.
