William McKinley becomes the third American president to be assassinated on this episode of This Day In History!

On this episode of This Day In History, Tony and Armand discuss the assassination of the 25th President of the United States, William McKinley.

In 1901, during a visit to the grounds of the Pan-American Exposition at the Temple of Music in Buffalo, New York, anarchist Leon Czolgosz shot and fatally wounded US President William McKinley as McKinley shook hands with the public throughout the reception line at the temple. McKinley would die from his wounds the following week, and Czolgosz would be executed by electric chair just seven weeks later.

Plus, South Africa declares war on Nazi Germany in 1939, Soviet pilot Viktor Belenko requests and receives political asylum in the United States in 1976, Cal Ripken, Jr. breaks Lou Gehrig’s consecutive games streak (2,131) in 1995.
