Indiana Jones and the Temple of the Forbidden Eye opened at Disneyland in 1995 as one of the most advanced Theme Park Attractions of its era. Nearly 30 years later, it remains one of the most popular attractions at the Disneyland resort—despite, in the opinion of some fans, having long since outlived its “glory days.” Was its brilliance as fleeting as the Treasure of Mara itself? What about the queue and ride itself makes this attraction’s opening so legendary? How did it tell its story—and what makes it stand alone as both a thrill ride and a narrative experience?
