Is your RV ready for spring?

Let’s Face it, most RV bathrooms are pretty compact. Don jokingly mentioned in a previous show about sitting on the toilet and reaching the microwave. That’s just not as far fetched as it sounds. Kris, Don and I will each give you our thoughts on this one.

RV Bathroom Features To Consider

Does that tiny sink in the corner serve any real purpose? Could you even get your head over it to brush your teeth?
What will you use the shower for? Who actually fits in it anyway? Where is the water going when that curtain is closed?
Can you close the door to use the bathroom?
Is the vent or fan adequate?

Even if you’re into roughing it, your significant other may not be. You are probably better off to have an RV bathroom that meets their needs, even if you think it’s overkill. Otherwise, you may be camping alone.

Getting Your RV Ready For That First Camping Trip

We will spare you the 2,000 word blow by blow description. There are really five areas you want to focus on. This is assuming you’ve put it away for the winter in proper working order, but winterized.

Inspect everything. Look it over like you’re considering buying it. Check for leaks and water damage. While you’re in all those nooks and crannies, check for mice, and their damage.
Flush out the water system. I used 2 cups of bleach with 3 gallons of water, and ran it through everything. Let it sit overnight, then flush an fill several times. When you can no longer smell bleach, you’re ready to go.
De-gas your RV. Get rid of any build up of dangerous fumes. We covered this in Episode 12. Eliminating Dangerous Formaldehyde Fumes In Your RV. It’s worth revisiting.
Check the towing apparatus, brakes, lights and tires to be sure it’s safe to tow.
Check your stored items. From stored food to salt shakers, pots and pans,and that BBQ grill cleaning brush. We will give you good reason to toss that brush and start the season with a new one.
