#30: Bitterness & Betrayal: A Snapshot of Owning a Dance Studio – Part 1

We welcome Dana and Scott Bailey from Dana’s Studio of Dance and the Performing Arts Conservatory. http://danastudio.com/ They are our Super Heroes because they own 3 dance studios with 4 different dance companies, a performing arts conservatory, manage 60 teachers and hundreds of students. We couldn’t handle our small one little studio that we had for 5 years. Their studio locations are in Southlake,Keller and Coppell in Texas.

We learn that Dana is ALWAYS RIGHT and her husband can never question her and he should always do whatever she says. They are going on 25 years of owning these dance studios and we discuss how staff, parents and friends have betrayed them, very close to what happened to us, while owning a dance studio. It is a complicated, very ugly business at times. We discuss the very first gut wrenching betrayal, where a teacher and friend announced on stage at recital that he was opening his own studio down the street. While Dana and Scott were cleaning up and tearing down the recital, this teacher was surrounded by all the children asking him where the new studio was at.

They discuss another situation where a dance parent told them that his full intention was to take 20 % off their business right off the top. He put flyers on all cars in Dana’s studio parking lot while his own daughter was still taking dance there, and trying to get Scott fired from his job at the high school. To end this first part of our show with Scott and Dana we cannot believe the story they shared about the recital where police officers had to tazer a dance parent that was in a vicious fight with other dance parents about reserving seats.
