Watchmen begins on HBO on October 20th at 9 PM EST and on Sky Atlantic around Europe from October 21st at 9 PM GMT. We're really excited to chat all about it in our new Watchmen Podcast. We chat a bit about the original comic, the Watchmen 2009 movie and the new Watchmen TV series in this episode. https://open.spotify.com/show/71WiYolZMPxB7QVSTMZ5zk Subscribe to the podcast on Spotify to hear everything we cover Details of our Watchmen Podcast Prelude We discussed the Comic Books The comic was a 12 issue limited series by Alan Moore, Dave Gibbons and Lein Wein (Who was an editor alongside Dick Giordano and Barbara Kesel).Perfectly suited to comics as a medium.Multiple time periods, multiple storylines, multiple storytelling methods (Black Freighter the comic within a comic, Under The Hood the tell all biography, interviews in newspapers sit alongside the actual comic story.)Alan Moore is a one and done kind of guy. So once the book Watchmen was released he’s out. The TV show involves Dave Gibbons as an exec producer. We discussed Zak Snyder's Watchmen 2009. There are a number of cuts of the film. The Theatrical version (2 hours 43 mins), Directors Cut, Ultimate Cut(3 hours 25 mins), Animated Black Freighter movie, Under the Hood documentary were all made by Zak Snyder in his quest to film the unfilmable. He changed the ending from the comic but kept very close on most other things. The movie cost about €130 million to make and made about $185 million at the box office ($185,253,487). That was good for an R-Rated movie before the billion dollar era of Marvel. Despite this the movie was very divisive among cinema goers. Budget and box office date from BoxOfficeMojo.com (https://www.boxofficemojo.com/movies/?id=watchmen.htm). Some quotes and interviews about the show with Damon Lindelof We talked about some of Damon Lindelof's comments from the Watchmen cast and creators interview at BUILD NYC. He talks about the inspiration that he took from the following Atlantic Magazine article "The case for Reparations" by Ta-Nahesi Coates. We highly recommend reading the article. https://www.theatlantic.com/magazine/archive/2014/06/the-case-for-reparations/361631/ https://youtu.be/sxRtwvfVVIg We discussed Damon Lidelof's interview about Watchmen with EW.Com (READ THE FULL INTERVIEW HERE) here's the quote we used: Copyright of EW Damon Lidelof talks about avoiding moralisation in Watchmen.
