Welcome back to the Unsaid Truth podcast presented by Thurgood Marshall College Fund with your hosts Jerrin Strayhorn and Khadija Campbell. This week they are talking about the pressures and expectations of being a first-generation college student with Jonte Simmons.
Jonte grew up in Laureldale, PA, with his sister and two brothers. His mom worked hard to lift them up and encouraged them to reach their highest potential. Jonte did just that while attending Delaware State University, and continues to shine as he’s entered the workforce. Throughout this episode, he shares his experiences being a first-generation college student, and the first in his family to enter corporate America.
His first year on campus wasn’t easy, but he shares how he rose above the challenges, even hitting his goal of becoming Mister DSU. Tune into this episode to be inspired by Jonte’s story and reminded that being the ‘first’ is beautiful and powerful.
