OMG… I’m excited to say that in this episode, we’re talking about EXECUTIONS. Before you get too excited, we’re not talking about killing people (this isn’t a true crime podcast)! Better yet, we’re talking about day of coordination and wedding day execution with Natalie Christensen, wedding planner and co-owner of Aloha Bridal Connection.
Wedding planning encompasses a huge range of talent and imagination, from planning, to designing, to execution, or as Joe says “wedding planning is the cornucopia of crazy different talents” - so true! In this episode, we’ll be chatting with Natalie specifically about day of wedding coordination and execution. Brides, grooms, family and friends, this episode is a must!

MANAGING THE WEDDING DAY CHAOS

  • Natalie: What’s the difference between a wedding planner and a wedding coordinator? A wedding planner leads and guides the preplanning and pre-wedding details. A wedding coordinator manages the execution and logistics, coordinates the wedding day and its happenings.
  • What does a typical wedding day look like? Long 12-16 hour days from early morning overseeing rentals and other vendors, to accounting for all logistics, visuals, and the “VIP realm” aka the couple. Making sure the details are in place, everyone is supported throughout the wedding day.
  • If it looks like we’re doing nothing, it means we’re doing our jobs.
  • Why should you hire a coordinator? You know you need one (experienced a wedding and saw the stress that comes with it), or your venue says you need one.
  • During pre-planning, you have time to manage wedding details and stress. On the day, it’s a lot to manage on your own. The goal of day of coordination is to lift the mental weight so you or your loved ones don’t have to. Can you/they do it? Yes, but at the expense of their wedding enjoyment.
  • Booking a coordinator is like booking wedding day insurance - we are the insurance policy for your wedding day. You’ve invested money in your wedding, why wouldn’t you do everything to protect your investment?
  • Listen to the episode for Natalie’s adorable accidental pregnancy announcement story
  • Bye Joe! (Natalie is so good she will be replacing Joe as my co-host... just kidding!)
  • Reality: Wedding coordinators should be focusing on vendor and guest management, decor beautification and set up. They advocate for your plans, but should not replace the role of any of your vendors.
  • Expectation: Wedding coordinators do it all, and are the catch all for everything.
  • 3 Tips to work with your coordinator: Communicate everything, know your priorities, and trust your coordinator.
  • JOE: Wedding planners are chaos managers.
