Spoiler Alert: If you like awkward, you’re going to LOVE this episode. It’s awkward, it’s cringy, and it’s OH-SO-GOOD. Today, we’re taking the pressure off of you, and placing it onto your friends and family as we talk about how to be the PERFECT wedding guest. Tell your friends and family this episode is a MUST LISTEN, as we prepare you and your guests for wedding day success.

Have you heard the term “guest-zilla?” We’re making it a thing so listen in to see if you might possibly be a guest-zilla. As a professional photographer and wedding planner, we’ve seen the best (and worst) in guests, and have tons to say on what you can do to set your guests up for your wedding day!

How to be the PERFECT Wedding Guest (and what you can to to prepare)

  • Set your guests up for wedding day success, no one wants guest-zillas on their big day!
  • RSVP on time - don’t show up if you didn’t RSVP. Even if it’s assumed you’re coming (wedding party, family, BFFs) you need to RSVP. On the other hand, if you RSVP, show up! Set your guests up for success - if they don’t RSVP, follow up! Don’t assume they’re not coming.
  • Come as you are - follow the invitation and only bring who’s invited. If an invite is for you plus your spouse, don’t assume you can swap your spouse with your BFF. Set your guests up for success - be clear on the invite (how many seats do you have reserved, and for who).
  • Follow the dress code. You may assume the dress code is more casual in a tropical destination, but always double check before arriving in an Aloha shirt, khaki pants and flip flops. Set your guests up for success - put your dress code everywhere (on your invitations, on your website, and remind people whenever you see them).
  • Follow the rules that the couple sets for their wedding. Unplugged ceremony? Keep your phone in your pocket. Do not play list? Don’t pressure the DJ to play those forbidden songs, no matter how much you love the Electric Slide! Set your guests up for success - make sure your guests are constantly reminded about your wedding day rules.
  • Be on time, or better yet, be early!
  • Bring a gift, or don’t. Follow whatever they ask for - venmo, cash only, or no gifts.
  • Respect the seating chart and don’t move seats. The couple took time to create the seating chart and moving might affect your meal, and the guests around you.
  • Be engaged! Have a good attitude and sign the guest book, use those disposable cameras, write on the jenga blocks, or do whatever the couple asks of you. Set your guests up for success - keep things reasonable - don’t have so many activities that guests can’t do it all. Assign someone to help your guests.
  • Don’t give the couple a play by play of everything happening at the wedding - good or bad. Let the couple enjoy their day and trust that their vendors will do the job they were hired f
