Major Companies Go Belly Up!

US World Report Radio remembers the companies and industry products that made America the envy of the world: from Sears to Xerox, all fallen by the wayside. What happened? Where did they go and Why?

We look at a world where tariffs and trade wars have returned and Amazon rules the day, bringing precious products to our doorstep on time, with little care for where they were made and by whom?

Join us as we recall the day when all you needed was a Sears catalogue where you could order every household need from furniture to an actual house, completed and delivered to your lot.

Take a ride with us on the luxurious Pan Am Airlines, an American icon of luxury, first to fly passengers around the world, not to mention carrying the Beatles to New York. Who could forget them waving in front of the Pan Am logo now long gone, replaced by shoe horn seating and sometimes rude flight attendants.

US World Report Radio takes a listen to Steve Jobs as he explains the sad day when marketing took over and product people disappeared; when Xerox changed from a noun to verb, long after their essential product died, leaving the industry in the dust Xerox people are now called “Toner Heads”.

Listen as our editorialist Mary Saliba laments: “When another company goes bankrupt a piece of our past is gone.” But let’s face it, some companies have been found guilty of Monopoly, and perhaps it was time for them to Pass Go.
