The prevalence of obesity in cats has increased in recent years to 30-40%, and as in humans and other species, obesity is considered a risk factor for diabetes mellitus, hypertension, dyslipidemia, some types of cancer, chronic inflammation, and shortened life span. In this podcast, Dr. Okada will discuss how to correctly diagnose overweightness and obesity in feline patients. Weight management plans consisting of energy requirement calculation, monitoring, and adjustment will be discussed. Diet recommendations that address common challenges will also be covered.
