How Should Christians Vote? In this message, Pastor Jamie Nunnally will share about this elephant in the room.

Our Elephants in the Room was a series started back in 2015 because I realized there were tough topics and sensitive subjects that needed to be addressed with grace and truth.

How Should Christians Vote?

1. Christians should be informed and involved in government.

One of the greatest gifts you can give to the world is your faith in Jesus.

Matthew 22:19-21

We don't force people to believe Christian doctrine. But it is good and just to have laws that coincide with Biblical morality.

2. Christians should properly prioritize their political opinions.

If God wanted to save us through secular government, he would have sent a politician to win elections, not a carpenter born to die.

Isaiah 9:6

The problem with our world is sin, and the solution to that sin problem is not government - it's God. Salvation has come thru a spiritual government and its King is Jesus. No politician or party accurately or totally represents God - stop acting like they do.

A Christian's job is not to connect people to their politics but to connect people to their King.

3. Christians should opt out of political strife.

How you talk about politics affects the kingdom of God.

James 3:13

Please do not post unverified information. That's bearing false witness and breaking one of the 10 commandments. Why would someone listen to you about your faith when you clearly don't care about the truth, when it comes to politics?

Titus 3:9

If God hasn't changed their mind yet, your FB argument certainly won't.

Outrage is not a fruit of the spirit.

Proverbs 29:11

Stop venting, start praying.

4. Christians should value unity over uniformity.

Unity is harmony despite differences, uniformity is sameness with no differences.

Galatians 3:26-28

Prioritize Jesus over all other labels, including political ones. Some people identify with their political party more than their church family.

John 17:21

Our unity brings clarity to who Jesus is.

Ephesians 4:3

Church, this is our time to be different than the world - we must demonstrate how to disagree without disrespect. We must value the person even if we don't value the opinion.

5. Christians should surrender their vote to Jesus.

Judges 21:25 In those days Israel had no king; all the people did whatever seemed right in their own eyes.

Joshua 5:13-14

God doesn't want you to follow the donkey or the elephant, but the lamb. God has sent a King to rule over His kingdom, and if you are His, no one but Jesus should get your blanket allegiance.

Have you surrendered your vote to Jesus? Are you informed and involved? Have you properly prioritized your political opinions? Are you involved in political strife. Do you value unity over uniformity? Prayed about who to vote for?
