There is a potential NHL playoff format being discussed now that COVID-19 has thrown a wrench into the 2019-20 season. It's seen as the most likely playoff scenario to result should the regular season be unable to be played, and the NHL then jumping right into the playoffs.

Under this scenario, the Buffalo Sabres would make the playoffs. But would it count as ending the playoff drought? Would a Stanley Cup win in this way be legitimate or satisfying? Also, under this format the Sabres would play the Toronto Maple Leafs in the first round. So there's a lot to unpack on multiple levels and it all gets broken down here!
