Welcome to Episode #151 of Way of the Bible podcast. This is our seventh of eight episodes in our nineteenth mini-series entitled, The Vineyard Owner’s Son. On today’s episode we’ll be looking at the Reckoning of Faith as told to us in Matthew Chapter 7 by Jesus Christ; Son of God and Son of Man.

On this mini-series we’ve been reading the Sermon on the Mount as recorded by Matthew in his gospel in Chapters 5 to 7. My prayer for listeners during this mini-series has been that they would explore and put into practice meditative reading and contemplation practices such as found in St. Ignatius and his spiritual exercises and/or Lectio Divina. Jesus and the New Testament writers make it very clear that disciples are to learn from Jesus; be disciples of Jesus; and walk with Jesus in daily life. Jesus is not dead and useless in this regard. Jesus died yes. But he rose again, breaking the power of death, opened the way for believers to enter the kingdom of heaven through rebirth in the Spirit, ascended into heaven to sit at the right hand of the Father, and God the Father sent the Holy Spirit to indwell all believers.

The Holy Spirit is our guide through the word of God to remind us of all that Jesus said and did; to illumine wisdom, understanding, and the knowledge of God; to sanctify us through the renewal of our minds and guiding us in obedience to Jesus commands discerning good from evil. Our sanctified lives should reflect the pursuit of good and rejection of evil.

I’ll be reading the entirety of Matthew 7 near the end of this episode. Please take the time to reread the text again in a quiet place and allow Jesus by the Holy Spirit to provide you with an interpretation and application in your life today. You’ll discover if you haven’t already these quiet times are not typically quiet as intimacy with the Holy Spirit involves a lot of back and forth banter. As you seek, call out for wisdom, and yearn to possess the knowledge of God the Holy Spirit always without fail delivers…
