In Genesis 35:8, we're told that Deborah, Rebecca's nurse, died and was buried below Beit El, under the terebinth tree. This verse seems to be unrelated to the other verses, before or after. Had Deborah joined up with Jacob's group? If so, why? Had Rebecca herself (who would be much younger) died, and Jacob's clan was caring for the elderly nursemaid in her old age? Why does this account of Deborah's death appear here, seemingly unrelated to anything other than the name of Beit El? with Ross Nichols
