Sarah Milby, now a Senior Policy Manager at Blockchain Association, began her Web3 journey when she saw the need to transact across borders. Sarah shares a personal story about how she realized friends and family members across the world were facing countless obstacles to support each other financially. So, she dove into crypto research and has begun doing everything she can to make a change. Sarah’s work focuses on security and the risks of centralized vs. decentralized exchanges. She says decentralization exists on a spectrum, and it isn’t black and white: Companies can have elements of both, and their level of decentralization can shift as the company evolves.

Sarah talks about how she learned the lingo of the crypto world, and advises to take the time to learn as much as possible and have a solid understanding of two big ideas: How the blockchain works, and what decentralization is and why it matters.

She also discusses:
  • How there’s so much coming in the future of Web3 that we haven’t even predicted yet
  • The difference between Traditional Finance (TradFi) big banks that don't use blockchain technology, and Centralized Finance (CeFi), centralized entities in the crypto space, and how they function in our society
  • And how it takes patience and community to learn the difficult parts of the Web3 world.
