"Foreign missionaries." Chances are, you think of cultural indoctrination and colonization when you hear those words. But it need not be so; history does have examples of humility and mutual interest among the many men and women who brought the message of Jesus overseas. Inspired by Dr. Ron Kydd's book Finding Pieces of the Puzzle, this week Mark talks about how Ziegenbalg in India and Taylor in China can serve as fine examples of mindful neighbouring in the history of the church, and how church planters in North America and foreign missionaries in faraway lands are becoming increasingly indistinguishable in practice and calling.
Then Mark sits down with Dr. Ron Kydd, Associate Professor of Church History at Tyndale Seminary. This week in Part 1, Ron talks about his early years growing up in Winnipeg, how he sensed a conviction around God from a young age, and what drew him to serve in the Pentecostal tradition as a teenager. Then he describes the early influences that attracted him to scholarship, the challenges he faced asking some of the questions he was asking, and how he published books on healing and the charismatic gifts from a very personal place.
