S3E12 - "Venus and the Man"
Manage episode 384930195 series 2799286
WELCOME BACK!!
We meet WKRP's cleaning lady, Cora...and she's got a problem. Her "little boy" Arnold just isn't all that into school. He's 16 and finding more success on the streets than in the classroom. Cora has turned to Venus Flytrap for his advice and help. Could he maybe have a talk with young Arnold?
Young Arnold turns out to be a middle-aged man...but we'll have to overlook that for the story. He's just as big, tricky and mean as his mama said. He also does NOT understand chemistry. Venus bets Arnold he can get Arnold to understand the atom in two minutes.
What happens next is one of the most amazing chemistry lessons ever aired on a sitcom. It won a Humanitas Award for script writer Hugh Wilson. It's also a pretty darn good piece of visual learning and metaphor.
Push "play" and join us in the storeroom as Professor Venus takes center stage. We're about to learn all about the atom and, if there's time...we'll do a little something on magnets.
WATCH ALONG DETAILS...
[Want to watch along with us? It's a blast!! We highly recommend the 'Shout Factory' boxed DVD set of the entire WKRP series. For reasons you'll have to listen to in the "Prolog" episode, all streaming versions of the original "WKRP in Cincinnati" have had the original music cues removed. Generic music beds and stings were used in place of the original music for the syndicated version of the series. 'Shout Factory' has been able to restore an estimated 85% of all WKRP music cues to the original "as-aired" content for their DVD release. They've also restored scenes that had been cut to shorten episodes for syndication. The original eps ran 25 minutes. The syndication eps were shortened to 22 minutes. Over 88 episodes that's more than four hours of lost content, including the performance by "Detective" at the end of "Hoodlum Rock." Get the COMPLETE series...get the Shout Factory DVDs. The Shout Factory complete series box has a release date of 2014. All individual seasons of Shout Factory disks were released starting in 2015.]
