We speak with Gary Kaunonen about his new book Flames of Discontent: The 1916 Minnesota Iron Ore Strike, which just won the 2018 Hognander Minnesota History Award. He is the author of several books, including Finns in Michigan, Challenge Accepted, and the co-author of Community in Conflict. He is an independent historian of labor and immigration, and a documentary filmmaker based in International Falls.
