Wide-eyed with wonder about space exploration, Stephen Wolfram's interest in science began in his childhood. Although he had difficulties learning arithmetic as a child, he became a young prodigy, publishing papers on theoretical physics at age 15. Today, he is a prominent figure in computational science and its impact on different domains, including AI. In this episode, he breaks down computational thinking and how it can help us jump ahead. He also takes a deep dive into AI, its implications, and how it works.

Stephen Wolfram is a British-American computer scientist, physicist, and businessman whose career spans the intersections of science, innovation, and entrepreneurship. He is the founder of Wolfram Research and the author of several books including, What Is ChatGPT Doing?

In this episode, Hala and Stephen will discuss:

- Stephen's childhood and early interest in science

- The history of AI

- Computational thinking and the importance of formalizing knowledge

- The Wolfram language and its relationship with AI

- The simple rules behind complex behaviors

- The training process and workings of ChatGPT

- How neural networks generate coherent sentences and new content

- Computational thinking as another layer in human evolution

- The impact of AI on jobs

- The potential sentience of AI

- And other topics…

Stephen Wolfram is a world-renowned computer scientist, theoretical physicist, founder of Wolfram Research, and creator of Wolfram Language. He received his Ph.D. from CalTech at age 20 and became the youngest recipient of a MacArthur Fellowship at 21. In 2002, he published the influential book, A New Kind of Science, which proposed a novel computational framework for understanding the world. Dr. Wolfram is the author of several other books, including his most recent, What Is ChatGPT Doing? He remains actively involved in researching computational thinking and its applications.
