Micro-Moment: School Anxiety, Avoidance & Autism - with Mum and Son, Eve & Alfie
Manage episode 436611528 series 3560832
As September looms on the horizon, many of you may be seeing an uptick in your teen’s anxiety - as the back-to-school anxieties start rising up.
So this week, I bring you a story of hope in the form of Eve & Alfie - a mum & son who know only too well the stress, distress, and challenges that school can bring.
Diagnosed with autism at the age of 4 and despite having an educational health & care plan, Alfie struggled tremendously at school, resulting in large periods when he was not able to go at all. Now 18 (at the time of recording), he and his mum share their candid & very real story of what it took to get through it and offer a beacon of light for other families in a similar situation.
“When you are in that world, those dark days, you don’t think you are going to get through it” says Eve, but their journey provides a true testament to the resilience that can be built through connection, communication, and unwavering support.
