Brave New Women hosted by Cecilia Poullain
Blanca talks about her role as a carbon scientist in measuring carbon cycles and their role in ecosystems.
Blanca was selected in the 4th cohort of the Homeward Bound program along with 99 other STEMM women. The program's slogan is "Mother Nature Needs her Daughters". It is a 10 year program with the aim of preparing 1000 women to take on leadership roles in protecting the planet. As part of the program, the women spent a month in Antartica.
She discusses the voyage to Antarctica and the outputs of the program, including a proposal to protect Antarctica and a book for children: "The Secret Life of Viruses". She also shares how the program made her force herself to overcome her shyness in order to speak up about the things that are important to her.
She talks about the difficulties of her life as a woman in science, a male-dominated environment, and the brutality of academia as a profession for both women and men.
