Trauma is often the result of an overwhelming amount of stress that exceeds one's ability to cope or integrate the emotions involved with that experience. Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) therapy is an interactive psychotherapy technique used to relieve psychological stress. It is an effective treatment for trauma and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). The psychologist Francine Shapiro invented EMDR in the 1980s when she noticed that moving her eyes from side to side seemed to reduce the occurrence of her own distressing memories. Dr Natalie Feinblatt is an LA native with a BA in Psychology and a Master’s and Doctorate in Psychology who uses EDMR to treat trauma survivors. She's an amazing doctor and an even more amazing human being. In this episode we talk a little bit about her background, why she became a psychologist and dig a little deeper into trauma and EMDR.
