What we talking about today, we are talking about finding joy and working out and I'm telling you, I've been working out for years. T's been working out for you.

But there's days, we just don't feel like it. And if you're starting fitness or you're starting to exercise and you want to take your health to the next level, I'm telling you, you're going to go through that phase where you just hate it. You don't want to do it. And some of you might consider it torture, but we want to give you five tips.

How many, five, five tips to help you enjoy the process or learn to enjoy the process and help youreach.

Hey, welcome to the muscles and medicine podcast. With Marin Asia, we combined fitness, health and motivation with faith to help you become stronger physically and spiritually and become the healthiest version of you. This episode, it is brought to you by divine design fitness, where we help you build your body and strengthening.

Okay. So let's be honest, making the commitment to work out as hard. Trust me, we know it is art, but first you have to discover your. That's sometimes that's difficult when your, why is out of alignment. So what we want to talk about today is finding joy and movements because we believe, and I think we all can agree that when you find joy in things, it makes it easier to get it done so much easier.

We try to make too many things in life hard. If we get adjusted, like she said, attach that why to it,the why is your joy? So let's get some ground rules. Two things about us that you will always findwhen you come to our channel one, we're going to keep it real. Keep it going to be honest. And we're going to give you Bible.

We're going to give you biblical scriptures to back up what we're saying. We'll bring that word. All right. So if we to keep it real, we gonna keep it 100. We're going to get you that word. We're going to start today with James one, two and three. And if you have your word, if you have your Bible, if you have your instruction manual from the Lord, we're going to be in the passion translation.

And it says my fellow believers, when it seems as though you're facing nothing but difficulties. See it as an invaluable opportunity to experience the greatest joy you can for, you know, that when your faith is tested, it stirs up in you, the power of endures. And I'm telling you, that's a promise when your faith is tested, working out is testing your physical ability.

Yeah. Worry about it. Says it. Especially if you train with me, if you tell me you're going to get tested, but the thing is, you don't know how strong you are until you allow yourself to be. And you're never going to be in a situation where gold, this is easy because you can, all you gotta do is flip a switch and take it to the next level.

Okay. So let's talk about the real part of fitness Moran gave you Bible. He gave you biblical. Let me give you real well. The Bible is real, you know, excuse me, Lord. I was real. Let me tell you about the real emotions and the feelings behind working out. If you're anything like me. I was all about quick fixes, tons of gym memberships that went unused workout clothes that became lounge clothes, Aaron clothes stores hanging on the floor, wherever, hanging on my Peloton bike, all the things that we do with the workout clothes, the groceries that we never intended to eat.

So when I, when I say grocery though, he never intended to eat. I mean, like the totally. Uh, no, she might've bought the, I buy tofu or the cauliflower rice. I'm like, oh, good. I'm a stir fry this. And then just sitting in the dry freezer, crazy. All the things we buy because we saw some quick fix thing that we know we were not able to maintain it.

We want to redefine how we think about fitness. We want to change the way we view fitness and we don't want it to be a painful experience. We want it to bring you joy. Yeah. And I'll be, I'll be to you. Like we've probably been working out. We've been working out together ever since we've been married and we've been working out even before that.

If I've had those ups and downs, the only thing that kept me consistent, whether it was the nutritional side, the workout side was the reason it was the reason. So that's what we're going to cover today. And we're going to cover a few things, but we really want you in everything. We talk about to remember that.

Why, if you don't know what it is, start to jot down ideas. Why is it your wife? Is it your husband? Is it your kids? Is it your physical health? Is it you want to get off medication? What is that? Why in always align it that why would God, what is God's purposes? Absolutely. So we're going to give you five tips that have helped us find joy in movement and in working out.

So I'm going to talk about the first one. The first one is start by finding joyful mood. Um, we read,we talk in church, like in praising, we aren't talking about, so for me, this is about redefining whatwe talked about earlier, what we consider fitness and working out, move, move. It isn't necessarily a squat.

But when you start now, joy is probably not going to be a squat. So what I found is I took it back to my childhood. What are some of those activities that we did as children that we found joy in? Me and Marrin talked about this and we kind of went back and forth. What he felt was joyful moments. I didn't really think it was joyful moments.

I was like, ah, that sounds like. So for me, I thought about rollerskating. You said roller blading is different rollerskate and double Dutch jump ropes, women Dodge ball. All those things. You, you think they're nothing, but there are ways to get your heart rate up for you to burn calories for youto move around.

Marrin tell us a little bit about some of your childhood joyful.

I got some stories. I was afraid of water, especially people, water growing up, not as much, but yet if I can't stand it, I'm like, I don't know. I was not double Dutch. I was like, I didn't have the rhythm and not the double dutch, mine was basketball and getting out there, playing basketball, watching basketball, and then going out and try to emulate the grades like Michael Jordan and stuff like that.

The biggest one for me was street racing. You know, that challenge like, oh, well you think you faster than me. All right, let's do it. Let's go. And. Again, the grace and the blessing of youth was being able to go out there and not even warm up and just go run full speed and not get hurt. So thank you Lord for that.

And then the other thing is those self challenges. And I know some of you might relate to this. Some of you, you might not, but if you like lived in a two-story house or had stairs, you would want to see how many stairs can I jump at one time, just crazy stuff. Like I said, rollerblading street, hockey, that kind of stuff.

I liked more competitive movements, more. I like the aggressiveness of certain sports and basketball. I like to get down there and just kind of bang and move my weight around. So yeah. So why, why let's talk about why, because we want to give you the why, why is it important to find joy in movement and in childhood activities?

So the reason why we're telling you to think back on your childhood activities is this is a way for you to just say, Hey, if I'm new to fitness, if I'm just starting. Let me try things that I enjoy. Right. The last thing you want to do is start anything or any fitness program doing something that you absolutely hate, right?

So we want to baby-step this thing, and we want to start out with things that we really enjoy so that we can just get used to moving again. So it could be like, if you want to go for a walk at your local park, or if you have a doll, you want to take your dog for a walk and say, we're going to walk for two miles.

It can. I mean, literally it could be anything. If you go to the mall and you like shopping and you find jewelry shopping, all right. I got to walk 10,000 steps before I buy something small or something. I mean, that might be a little bit much, but earn something. If you want to make it competitive, put yourself in a competitive situation to say, okay, I get to eat this, or I get to buy this.

If I do this. But just general joy. I mean, playing around with your kids or your grandkids playing Dodge ball, you know, that'd be probably be fun playing with a four or five year old. You get out there and then you gotta let them hit you. So they build their confidence and then you not have to try to take it out on them and throw the ball as hard.

I'm not uncle guys. I'm not, but what would you do now that you think would give you joy? Gaytan. I feel like that is just coming back. We're starting to see a lot of skate rings and skating clubs and different things pop up in the Dallas area. So I think that skating is something that if you're new to fitness and you want to start working out, you have a love and a passion for skating or used to get you a pair of roller skates.

Make it fun. Yeah, just take that Lysol brands have met you, and that brings us to tip number two,get your friends involved, also known as a partner. Yes. So, so, so important. I'm going to keep it real with you. Oh yeah. Yeah. My friends, my husband, she noticed she separated friends and husbands. I'm not her friend.

Never. He holds me accountable. And that is a goal about, bringing your friends, your support system, um, in the equation is that you have people to hold you accountable. Right? What I find the most valuable for my support system and my friends is that they tell me no T , we got to workout today or when I'm in the middle of a workout.

And I feel like I can do another squad. I can do another pushup. He gives me that look, but my friends say, see, you got this. They cheer me on. And they tell me that I can do that. So I, there isvalue and having people around you that can support you and that can push you because you start to be able to complete things that you finish, that you started, excuse me.

And you it's something about it that you just find the shrimp. Moving forward and to keep pushing through, what do you think about, support system and, yeah, well, for one where two or more gathered, I tell you you're going to go by, but when two of them are gathered Fitnesses also know two more, two more gathered, God is also where God is.

There's going to be transformation. There's going to be things. So yes, having that accountability, is there, like, it was big for me, especially in. Most competitive parts of my life in college. And my best friend is still my best friend to this day. I mean, there would be days, we were like, we had class, you know, stuff like that.

We didn't want to go to the gym. We had practice and it was like, man, but Hey, even if we didn't go to gym, if we couldn't get the keys to the gym, because it was too late, we'd have to work out in a dorm room or knock out some pushups, squats. We always may have each other and held each other accountable to do something.

And the cool thing now is you could do that virtually. You don't have to be in the same householdfor that to be. Sometimes it's actually even easier to, for that person not to be in the same household. Sometimes it's a different voice in your ear. You don't want to have the same voices in your ear all the time telling you go, go, go, and T will tell you, she doesn't always want to hear me.

You saying, go, go, go. It helps that her friends are that added voice, but we want to say it again. Your support system. Your group of people that push you, they do not have to live in a city with you, technology zoom, all the things that God has blessed us with to be able to communicate effectively to people that are not in our same cities.

I think we need to utilize those tools. We need to be able to understand that we have to have the right people around us and the right people may not be the people that live in your community. It may be. For example, my family's in North Carolina. They are a huge support system for me. So when we want to work out or we have goals and we have dreams, we get together, we hold each other accountable and it's usually through zoom FaceTime.

And I thank God for those technologies that he's given us. So your support system does not have to be in the same city or state. The goal of your support system is to be able to push you to. The goals that you're trying to meet and puts you to the next level and you don't have to do this alone. And that's the number one thing that a lot of people mess up, especially when new year's comes around every year.

They're like, I'm going to, I'm going to do this. I'm going to work out. I'm a lose weight. And in any, I've just realized that when there's too many items in your goal, The less you're going to achieve. If you say we are, you're going to achieve much more and have a high rate of success. So if I say we are going to work out, we are going to lose weight.

It's that joining of the two that really holds us or two or three or however many people you want to put in that group is going to help you guys achieve what you want to achieve. So the next one,tip number three, find the fitness program that is best for you. And this is a, this is a very important one.

And the reason why I say that is so many people out there will find a finished program one and they stick to it for too long, too. It's a program that's probably too challenging for them or too easy for them, but they still stick to it, because we are creatures of habit and through. If you're not seeing results in a timely matter is sometimes time to, choose something different.

Or the last one, w it's just not fun. You know, you do a workout is just not fun. Now, keep in mind when we say fun, we're not talking about you're going to be laughing and giggling because it's so funny during your workout, you're going to be sweating. You might have a tear come down, but. Is that shifting in the mindset toward just like, okay, I'm looking forward.

I have a vision of where I want to go. And I'm finding joy in the midst of this journey. We'll find a program that works best for you. Find something that fits in your schedule. If you only have 30 minutes a day, cause you gotta get up and go to work, you know, T's a nurse. So sometimes she's 10, 12 hour days.

She might not have. An hour or two hours we see might only have 15 minutes and, you know, findsomething that fits in your that's so important. That is a big one. Cause I feel like we're working out and with anything, busy moms, dads, entrepreneur, all the things that we have going on in life right now, time is valuable and we don't want to spend an hour.

Well, I don't want to spend an hour in a gym. Right. So finding a program, that's going to give meresults, but also make the most use of my time is so valuable to me. And some of the best workouts for me is the 20, 30 minute workouts. The ones where I am burning a lot of calories, I'mburning them fast.

Excuse me, God, we all keep saying, he saying where two or more gathered, what should be three? Let me come down there. A dog barking in the back. Dallas, y'all get a chance to meet Dallas another day. But yeah, so I just, again, I just find that my. Find a workout program. That's gonna give you the most bang for your buck emotionally and physically, but mostly in physically.

And a lot of people think all working out, this is just long periods of time. No, the best workout time I got to stuff to move on to I'm working out so I can enjoy life. I'm not working out to take up my life. Um, so yeah, just make sure you find something that you enjoy if, and then that might change. As your level of fitness increases?

When we did bootcamps at church, and, you know, shout out to where we worship, but they allowed us to do bootcamps and there was people in there when they started off, man, they werestruggling. And again, it was a lot of people, 80, 90, a hundred people that were accountability partners. This is prior when we could all gather like that.

But. Well, it's coming together. Everybody was holding each other and then they found ways to make it fun. Like, Hey, Hey girl, you going to do that? I'm going to do it with you. Let's go. They found ways to make it fun. Even though we were the ones making the workout, they found ways to make it fun. So just do what it takes to make it fun.

If it's not having fun, you're not going to stick with it. If you're not going to stick with it, you're not going to get results. Tip number four. So this is a big one. Give yourself grace. Please give yourself grace because to yourself, be kind to yourself, be kind to yourself, be kind to yourself. That means for me, said what that means for him.

But for me, that means if I feel like I need a day off and my body needs to reset and I need to rest, I'm going to give myself that grace to say, okay, it's in Asia today. You need to take out, takeoff because you have to be refueled refill. In order to continue on your journey. Okay. So, but what happens when, what happens when you allow that day?

Everybody is always going to be like, I don't feel like it today. So what's the difference between grace? I don't feel like it today versus versus the other side, grace. I don't feel like it today. I'm just being lazy. You know, like there, ain't no reason why I don't want to work out. It's just flat out.I just don't want to do it right there.

Ain't nothing telling me. I don't want to do nothing. Don't want to work out. I just want to lay on the couch and watch TV catch up on my shows. That's the, I don't feel like it. The I need grace and I need to take a day off as if I am in a lot of pain. I'm feeling fatigue, I have a headache, I havean injury.

These are things that you need to give yourself grace, and that you need to recognize that you need time off to heal your body so that you can continue on your journey. The last thing we want to do is to worse than an injury or make something worse. And then now you have more time off because we didn't give ourselves the grace to heal.

And in another way, I look at graces, okay. I like to lift weights. I like to move weight as part of my workout, but there are days where you just don't feel like that. For grace for me could be taken that day off, but it could also be, Hey, you know what? Instead of lifting weights today, I'm gonna go for a hike or I'm gonna go ride the bus.

Or something like that, a switch up the grace can be the switch up. Doesn't always have to be a complete risk. And again, that's part of finding the fun in it is giving yourself grace to be flexible in what you want to do. Don't get so regimented in something to where it becomes a chore. And many people do that as well.

In fitness. It becomes a chore because they're so regimented. I have to do this, right. These are the exercises that have to do. Most cases that comes from the bodybuilding world, because there's a specific goal in there, specific things you want to hit, but for beginners, you do not haveto be that regimented.

The goal is to get moving, to be active, have fun, doing it, to start changing your lifestyle, that more regimen, that side of things. And you'll be able to find joy in that as well. Awesome. All rightguys, and that brings us to our last tip tip number five, focus on. So, and that's big and that's what we were talking about.

The difference of being able to know the difference of laziness and tiredness. It honestly, if you're like, you know what, I just cannot. Don't do it that day. If you feel emotionally tired, if it could be stuff outside of work, if you had an mostly taxing week or physically taxing week, if, um,you have like a job where you're working in construction or something like that, sometimes you just need to say, you know what, not today, or if I am going to work out today, I'm just doing.

Or a 10 minutes just to get my heart rate up, get moving, but focus on how you feel now, if you feel great, push yourself a little bit more. That's the one thing we didn't say. I want to talk about that angle of it. So focused on how you feel. Remember, recall how you felt after you did that workout on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, whenever your days are.

And when you, when you feel like you don't want to do it, remember how well you feel, rememberhow much you were able to accomplish after you worked out. Remember how well you slept. Yes,yes, Lord. No, we want to sleep well. Uh, just how you feel. And so for me, for when, when I think about tip number five, to focus on how you feel, it's, it's the, the good part of it.

That's your motivation? If you can just recall and remember how well you felt to kind of propel you into the next day, or even if it was like, like I said, if you had a stressful week and you worked out and you were able to relieve that stress, there's a guy gave us the ability to exercise becauseI'm telling you the body releasing.

Stress and the hormones that help you combat stress. And then you have that euphoric feeling afterwards. Now, yes, your muscles might be tired, but you feel like you accomplished something. And your body just naturally starts to feel happy. You start to smile when we start to laugh more, and then you get addicted to that feeling.

So you want to do it day after day, so you can get that feeling , and those endorphins. All right. So let's recap. This will give you those five tips. Five tips. The first one was start by finding joyful movements. We are redefining what we consider working with. Right? Second one, get your friends involved and you do not have to do this alone.

Number three, find a fitness program that works for you. And then number four, my favorite one is give yourself grace, understand that you know what? Every day is not going to be perfect. Giveyourself grace for those mess ups, but then hop back on the horse and keep going. And my favorite number five is focused on how you feel.

All right. You also, Hey, we're glad you spent this time with.
