In this episode I take on the topic of resilience. I will draw from Eric Greitens book called Resilience. This is the key to a well loved life. Without some sense of meaningful struggle in our lives, something inside of us begins to breakdown, a part of us begins to die. Resilience requires us to take responsibility for our response to life. Failure is another important component to resilience, we have to rework our relationship with failure, it’s not something that defines us but is simply a part of the process. I will discuss how shielding our youth from struggle and difficulties are hindering their development of resilience. Resilience is not something that can be gained vicariously, we can’t give it to our children, they have to face their own struggles to develop it. I will touch on how self respect is not only a part of mental Heath but resilience as well. We are meant to have worthy work to do and without it, without the struggle we will never experience complete happiness.
