I’m joined by my good friend and marketing expert Shannon Gilpin. Her digital creative agency, Nonnahs Marketing, specializes in helping lifestyle, beauty and other businesses cultivate an online presence with SEO, social media and design. We discuss how we got our start in marketing and our advice for how to build a lucrative freelance career. We talk about the current social media landscape for beauty and lifestyle brands and highlight some accounts that are really doing it right. Shannon also shares her thoughts on cancel culture and how brands should handle negative comments and DMs (hint: never, ever delete anything). We round out the conversation by talking about major social media trends for 2022, and of course, the marketability of the Kardashians.

In this episode, Shannon and I dive into:

  • How TikTok is changing the game
  • The importance of finding your niche in the social media manager freelance market
  • How to collaborate as a freelancer
  • Building an authentic audience
  • Why brands should stop wasting time trying to find the ROI of social media
  • Celebrities and brands that get social media
  • Having a clear communications guideline of how to address negative comments
  • The most underrated skill that all good social media managers have
  • Ways consumers can decipher between authentic brands and perforative marketing
  • How TikTok is helping revive nostalgic brands like Abercrombie and Clinique
