Target Audience This activity is targeted toward all physician specialties. Statement of Need In the diagnosis and treatment of patients with either SUD or SMI there is limited consistency for the screening of both conditions if one condition exists, even though statistics indicate that up to 75% with one of these conditions will have a dual diagnosis (approx. 75% of patients with SMI will have SUD; and approx. 60% of patients with SUD will have one type of SMI). Additionally, There may be a lack of consistent utilization of the latest clinical guidelines in the management of patients with dual diagnosis. Objectives At the conclusion of this offering, the participant will be able to:

  • Define dual diagnosis and the incidence.
  • Discuss assessment strategies and indications for dual diagnosis.
  • Describe integrated treatment strategies for dual diagnosis.
