Aleksandra Zee is an Oakland-based woodworker with a degree in Fine Arts whose work as a display artist for Anthropologie led her to a woodworking career. She creates and sells original and commissioned pieces, teaches workshops at her studio in Oakland, and speaks regularly to audiences about her craft. Her work has been featured in Dwell, C Magazine, San Francisco Gate, Esquire, 7x7, Desert Sun, Refinery29, and on the Urban Outfitters blog.

What does it truly look like to build (and maintain) a values-driven business alongside tremendous growth and success?

This week, Phoebe is joined by Oakland-based woodworker and artist Aleksandra Zee, who creates and sells original and commissioned pieces, teaches workshops at her studio in Oakland, speaks regularly to audiences on her craft, and advocates for the use of sustainably sourced, FSC-certified materials.

Tune in to learn how Aleksandra’s early days building in-store and window displays for Anthropologie led to her permanent love affair with woodworking, what she does to establish healthy boundaries alongside an ever-growing online presence, and how she’s maintained a values-driven approach to her business dealings at all stages of her professional growth.

Noteworthy quotes:

[23:10] Social media gives a microphone to everyone. That’s a good thing and a bad thing.

[38:41] Don’t be afraid to lay out what your needs are and see if they can be met [by a partnership/collaboration]. Show Notes
