On this week's Seeds for Your Garden, I chat about some of the things to think about when considering whether the time is right to have more kids. Someone put this question to me on my instagram page, and while I don't offer individualised advice on the podcast (because its simply not possible), I do have some big thoughts about this. Spoiler... YOUR mental, emotional, spiritual, and physical wellbeing is the most important factor. Tune in to hear the rest.
Towards the end I also raise the suggestion that having multiple children close together could sustain the patriarchal structure of our culture. I wanted to add a further note to this; this is my musing for women who already find themselves diminished and silenced in some way by the demands placed on them by the structure of patriarchal motherhood and who are yet to find their own voice and power in the act of mothering. The social expectation for having more children close together in this case could be seen as tool to keep mothers diminished and voiceless for longer. It is my belief however that empowered mothers with strong voices, some of whom have multiple children will revolutionise the world. Mothers can only do this however is they center their own need and well-being alongside that of their children and families, rather than behind it.
...
