Welcome to the neXt Curve reThink series that focuses on the state of Open RAN and the future of open standards and technologies in mobile wireless infrastructure - The Radio to the RIC. This installment is the first of an ongoing series that neXt Curve's Leonard Lee will have with EJL Wireless Research President, Earl Lum, who is a widely-regarded expert on RAN infrastructure technologies and equipment.
The sobering reality is that the Open RAN movement is progressing much slower than anticipated two years ago as geopolitical tailwinds gave hope of rapid adoption. Analysts across the board have throttled back their forecasts. Some have reclassified their market definitions as the distinction between vRAN and ORAN become increasingly irrelevant. neXt Curve is joined by Earl Lum, President of EJL Wireless Research to discuss the ground truths rooted in the radio up to the RAN Intelligent Controller, the new hope of the Open RAN movement.
This webcast series will address the following topics:

  • Why is RAN hardware harder than the software
  • The state of the Open RAN stack. Is it ready for prime time?
  • Will software eat the RAN or will hardware still matter
  • Playing the Squid Game in the Open RAN race toward scale.
