Memorial day weekend, the last weekend in May, has been traditionally the most violent weekend in America. This year, many took action to prevent this trend from repeating. Kwesi Gharreau, better known as "Kwesi The Poet" has been a long time advocate of peace in the streets. His Spoken-word album was a conteneder in 7-categories for the 2024 Grammy Award. He was a Nominee for the Mayor's Office Inaugural Chicago Poet Laureate, 2023. He has been an Activist/Advocate against gun-violence for 31-years. He is a Content Creator/Producer for Film/TV/Digital/Radio, and has been so since1994 to the present. During Pre-Pandemic times he volunteered as a Parent/Poet at Canfield Elementary School/LA, 2014 to 2020. He is a Self-Published Author, his book published in 2023 entitle one, two, three...i LOVE poet-tree, is designed for children grades K-5. He is the Self-Published Author of an anthology of poetry, n'nocent RAGE, 1999. His critically acclaimed film short, self-titled, kweisi aired in 60 million homes on Current TV, 2010, and received at the Chicago Film Fest, best film short award, 2009. At the NYPS Film Fest/Jury Awards 2009 his film kweisi received 2nd Runner Up for best film short anAs a performing artist, Kweisi The Poet regularly uses his poetic lyrics to bring a message, talking to young people who are angry and frustrated, and helping them understand their responsibility to turn their anger into action that can make a positive difference in their lives. Today Zhana joins us live from the UK to talk about non-violence and strategies to head off acts of violence before they start.
