In this episode, I was lucky enough to interview Casandra Mann, the VP for Operations at Precision Systems Inc. (PSI).
We delved into the history and resilience of PSI's founder, Walt, who overcame throat cancer and significant business challenges, including the impact of 9/11. Despite losing $7 million in contracts overnight, Walt rebuilt the company from scratch, emphasizing a culture of integrity, quality, and strong personal relationships. Casandra highlighted how these values have been fundamental to PSI's continued success and growth, reflecting Walt's leadership and commitment to hiring people who share his vision.
Casandra discussed her role and evolution at PSI over the past seven years, emphasizing the balance between traditional relationship-building and modern digital marketing strategies. Initially focused on digital marketing, she learned the importance of personal connections in business development from Walt. Casandra has been instrumental in managing operations, overseeing sales and marketing, and ensuring smooth transitions from client acquisition to project delivery. She detailed PSI's growth, nearly doubling in size over a few years, and the importance of having robust policies and procedures to support this expansion. Casandra expressed confidence in the enduring relevance of software engineering, despite technological advancements like AI.
