Is your bathroom a battleground when it comes to your teenager's hygiene? On one hand, we struggle to get our teen sons to simply wash their face, while on the other, we grapple with curbing our daughters' complex beauty routines (seriously, are all those serums necessary?).

That's why I'm thrilled to have Dr. Sheilagh Maguiness with us today!

Dr. Maguiness is a double board-certified pediatric dermatologist, a mom of two tween boys, so she understands the struggles firsthand, and the co-founder of Stryke Club, a personal care and hygiene brand designed specifically for boys. Dr. Maguiness is here to help us navigate the often confusing and challenging world of teenage hygiene.

Key Takeaways
  • Teenagers often struggle with hygiene due to their desire for independence and busy schedules.
  • Parents should model good skincare habits and provide the necessary tools for their teens.
  • For boys, a basic skincare routine of washing the face, using a gentle cleanser, moisturizer, and sunscreen is sufficient (see below for recommendations)
  • For girls, it's important to avoid overcomplicating skincare and using harsh products. A gentle cleanser, moisturizer, and sunscreen are the essentials.
  • Pimple patches can be helpful for preventing picking and promoting wound healing in acne.
