YOUR RELEASE PLAN – WHY IT’S IMPORTANT

The DOJ and Feds have been asking questions; their case is mostly complete. With a 98% conviction rate, the odds are not in your favor.
"Whether you’re going to a “Camp” (for sentences less than ten years) or you have a longer sentence, it lays the groundwork for a smoother transition to be released.
Reentry planning is crucial. Why?

  • First, your judge will ask you, ‘What is your plan not to return’ to their courtroom again?

The most significant impact comes from self-advocating, taking charge of your situation, and paving the way for success.
Release Plan I of VI

Before your Presentence Interview (PSI)

  • INTROSPECTION: “I’ve had a lot of time to think, and I didn’t realize how bad my decisions were and how much pain they inflicted on the victims I created as a result of my actions…

Release Plan II of VI

  • Before the Sentencing Hearing building, after giving more thought to what brought you to this point.
  • Your NARRATIVE now evolves into your Allocution, where lawyers nationwide agree that judges want to hear from you.

Release Plan III of VI

  • Once Inside, this Routine of Journaling grows –by documenting each FSA Class you've taken and what you have learned. Everything Constructive, including mentoring others or teaching classes, becomes part of your release plan.

Your First Meeting with Your Case Manager:

  • ALWAYS BE RESPECTFUL. ASK IF THEY’RE WILLING TO LOOK AT YOUR RELEASE PLAN, NEVER DEMAND, AND NO ATTITUDE.

WHY?

With No Release Plan

  • Why should a Case Manager recommend you for the Second Chance Act...
  • If you don’t appear to care about your future – why should they?

With No Release Plan

  • Why should a Case Manager recommend you to a Residential Reentry Manager (RRM) for one of their limited beds?

With No Release Plan

  • Why should a Residential Reentry Manager (RRM) take a chance on you when someone else is applying with a Great Release Plan?
  • If someone has taken the time to:
  • 1) Write a Release/Reentry Plan that includes why they need that time and how they will use it constructively in rebuilding their life while in the Halfway House and then on Home Confinement; who would you choose?
  • BOP Case Manager recommendations are important to Residential Reentry Managers (RRM), as they need to know they’re bringing in a qualified person who can continue their reentry successfully back into the community.
