Mastering our emotional instincts is key to unlocking a healthier and happier life. Join this episode as Dr. Nan Wise—a neuroscientist, a sex therapist, and author of the book, Why Good Sex Matters: Understanding the Neuroscience of Pleasure, for a Smarter, Happier, and More Purpose-Filled Life—explains about the Seven Basic Emotional Instincts wired into our human and mammal brains for survival: Care, Play, Lust, Fear, Rage, Panic/Grief and the overall one of "Seeking".

Care, Play, and Lust help us move towards pleasurable things. Fear, Rage, and Panic/Grief direct us away from negative or unsafe things. Having an understanding of these seven instincts and how there are three levels to the human brain helps us work our brain/mind better for a happier, more fulfilling life.

Nan began this journey of understanding her brain to help her manage her panic attacks and experiencing anxiety even in a room by herself to being interviewed on national television on the Today Show. The biggest takeaway from her research is that Pleasure is a Necessity, not a Luxury for health and well-being.

This episode is the first of a small mini-series with Dr. Nan focusing on pleasure, blocks to pleasure, and understanding how to work with your brain and body to create and experience more pleasure. Yes, Please!
