We tackle a topic that is often not discussed within the LGBTQ community...intimate partner violence (IPV) and domestic abuse. Intimate partner violence is domestic violence by a spouse or partner in an intimate relationship against the other spouse or partner. It can include a current or former intimate partner, and can take a number of forms, including physical, verbal, emotional, economic, and sexual abuse. We speak with June Crenshaw and Amy Loudermilk. Both Crenshaw and Loudermilk are D.C. area advocates and work closely with Rainbow Response Coalition, an organization committed to educating and breaking the silence around LGBTQ intimate partner violence. They give us tools to recognize unhealthy and abusive relationships, as well debunking myths surrounding intimate partner violence.
